This week’s Supreme Court arguments remind us that discrimination against transgender youth makes it harder for them to thrive.

Politicians in Tennessee, Kentucky and 24 other states have put the well-being of these youth at risk, overruling families and denying them the ability to access essential care for their transgender child. In fact, 37% of trans youth in the U.S. live in states that have health care bans like the ones currently before the court.

Like all families, the family of a transgender youth should have the freedom to get their child the medical care they need. The Supreme Court should affirm that these decisions ought to rest with doctors, families, and patients — not politicians.

Below, hear more about one family’s journey toward understanding what it means to be transgender, their hopes and dreams for their transgender son, and why they support laws that protect transgender people from discrimination.
